Mixology
A series of playful eating events and research into food combinations
With event design food research
Mixology 2 and 3 are featured in Gestalten’s book “Delicate”, and the project has been performed in many iterations since, all over the world.
Mixology 4 took place at HönnunarMars (DesignMarch) in Reykjavik, with Dill Restaurant. Video here.
It started as a fun way to socialise with friends. It scaled up — at one point we ran the format for over 150 guests, with Fredrik Eriksson of Långbro Värdshus.
Wait, what?
Long story short: Prang had her laptop held hostage by the repair shop of a well-known computer/fruit company refusing to repair or return it. A fundraising campaign started alongside diplomatic attempts to get the laptop released. Diplomacy won. To the joy of us all, we threw a party with the funds raised. That was the first Mixology, and the start of an eating-design project that’s spanned several years and spawned new concepts along the way.
Guests arrive and are given lab coats (to put them in an experimenting mood) and notepads (to document their culinary trials). Over the evening they follow three rules:
- Compound of Three
- Only Once
- Do Tell
Combinations of three ingredients each, each combination tried only once, and participants encouraged to share — and trade combinations. The combinations are recorded, along with comments.
Co-designed with Josefin Vargö and Prang L of Another New Design Studio. I managed the documentation. More video here.
